Nursula Bendy, mostly referred to as Nurse Bendy, works at Dr. Martin Luther's Protestant Hospital and Alfred G. Diorama Elementary School. She's a minor character and, prior to Season 3, a source of comic relief. She's also Joe Secondopinionson's mother, Ms. Secondopinionson's stepmother, and is possibly Coach Stopframe's half-sister.

Personality[]

In most settings, Nurse Bendy appears to be little more than a stereotypical "dumb blonde." She finds no satisfaction in working at the hospital, nor in having sex with Principal Fakey. Whether she's following Dr. Potterswheel's demands or tending to patients herself, she's usually depicted as incompetent at her job and possessing no desire to improve. At home, she's almost an entirely different character: she's excited to be a responsible, doting mother for her "family" of teddy bears.

In order to cope with trauma, Nurse Bendy age regresses to a childlike state. Through playing house with her stuffed animals, she fulfills her dream of being a great mom with an unconditionally loving family. Even if she doesn't take her medical work seriously, Nurse Bendy wants to set a good example for her son (first a teddy bear named "Sonny," later Joe). Yet despite living in her dream house, Nurse Bendy is still on edge that her "Hubby" bear might take advantage of her just like other men have; when he falls on her in "Alone" in a suggestive way, she immediately panics and later ties him to his chair.

Until she reunited with Joe, Nurse Bendy tried to compensate for her lacking self-image by having her stuffed animals look up to her by default. As she bonded with her real son, who loved her as she was, Nurse Bendy gradually rid herself of her stuffed animal substitutes and focused on raising Joe.

History[]

At some point before the show, Nurse Bendy and Dr. Secondopinionson knew each other. While he would shower her with compliments about how smart she was, he was simply using her to get in her pants. She would later give birth to Joe, who Dr. Secondopinionson took away from her. After this encounter, she believed that she was dumb, especially too dumb to raise a child. It is fair to assume that Nurse Bendy had Joe when she was a minor, since she age-regresses. Not only this, but she is 24 in the series currently, meaning that she had him at the exact age Joe is now: 12.

For nearly a decade, the closest she could get to Joe was through Ms. Secondopinionson's secondhand accounts of him. This changed when Joe entered the hospital and asked Nurse Bendy if she was his mom (as he believed, according to his dad, that his real mother died in childbirth). The two would bond over their shared trauma, and Nurse Bendy would eventually let Joe move in with her.

Family and relationships[]

Joe Secondopinionson

While Nurse Bendy couldn't see Joe for the longest time, she would get info about his misadventures secondhand from Ms. Secondopinionson. Joe's personality and character tics were replicated into her "Sonny" bear as she pretended to be present in his life. Fortunately for Nurse Bendy, the real Joe would visit her in "Dumb" and the two would bond over the incomplete families and animosity toward Dr. Secondopinionson.

Dr. Secondopinionson

He had sexually assaulted Nurse Bendy before the events of the show, then left her and took their child. Nurse Bendy hates him. Dr. Secondopinionson would mostly forget about her as a result of his dementia kicking in, and told Joe that his real mother died in childbirth to cover up his act.

Principal Fakey

The two have an affair throughout the series. Principal Fakey tends to sexually harass her and has no interest in her non-physical features. Nurse Bendy, meanwhile, disassociates while having sex with him and doesn't like seeing him.

Trivia[]

Waste gallery 17 This section contains speculation. Please keep this in mind as you read it.
  • "Narcissism" would have revealed that Nurse Bendy was 24 at the episode's point in the timeline (which would be at some point after "Sacrifice"). If properly adopted into the series' canon, this would make her a victim of child sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Secondopinionson.
  • In "Maturity," Doughy calls her "Nurse Blinkless." This is either a continuity error, Doughy butchering her name, or referring to how dull she behaves in front of others.
  • Nursula Bendy's first name is a combination of "nurse" and "Ursula," a typically female name. Her last name describes something flexible and refers to how clay bends.
